Mission The mission
of the Arts and Culture Observatory is to provide the most current,
complete, accurate, objective, and meaningful information and analysis
available regarding the arts and cultural sector in the Greater Pittsburgh
region.
Vision
The Observatory is the principal information and analytical resource
center in the region for arts, cultural, philanthropic, policy and
media organizations, by maintaining a comprehensive knowledge base
of the operational, financial and programming conditions of non-profit
creative enterprises in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. These
data and analyses are vital resources for informing agencies in
their strategic planning, decision-making, and policy development
efforts.
Values
- Comprehensive - covering all of the performing and
visual arts, heritage, and cultural institutions, both incorporated
and unincorporated
- Objective - research and analysis by an
agency that is unaffiliated with any advocacy or service organization
- Detailed - in-depth data of operations, programming
and participation
- Rigorous - data collection and analysis procedures
based on established and proven academic standards
- Contextual - internal and external comparative
analysis: 1) across and among arts disciplines, 2) between the
arts and other related fields/industries, and 3) the arts environment
relative to external environments including economics, education,
socio-demographics, politics, and technology
- Ongoing - more than "balance sheet"
analysis (snapshot of current situation). Longitudinal analysis,
including the identification of past and future trends
